The many voices of my brother

Magdalena Schrefel with Valentin Schuster
A brother and sister organise a voice casting. A genetic defect means that the brother's voice is giving up the ghost. So together they search for a voice that will allow him to keep speaking. Or rather: many voices! One for every situation in life. The starting point is the author's brother, who has been disabled since birth. He leads an independent life, studies, parties and has been acting for many years. In recent years, however, his ability to speak has diminished and soon the brother will be dependent on an artificial voice. He can choose which voice this should be. This is where the fantasy begins: what if you could have more than one voice? Ryan Gosling's, for example? What if the brother had one voice just for Monday, one strong voice, another one for seduction? And if his sister wrote about it, what would that do to the siblings?
