SIDY Thal – a schtikl
Thomas Perle
As part of the opening readings, SIDY THAL a schtikl will be presented at the KULTUMUSEUM Graz. On 26 November 1938, two hand grenades exploded in the auditorium during a guest performance by the Jewish-Bukovinian singer Sidy Thal and her ensemble at the Timisoara Theatre. Four people died and seventy were injured in this anti-Semitic attack perpetrated by the extreme right-wing nationalist Iron Guard.
What is true? What really happened? This scenic reading attempts to reconstruct the attack and examine the period in which anti-Semitism and fascism became part of everyday life and destroyed a multicultural society.
